Quality education in a beautiful, culturally rich city.
Durban Language Centre is situated in Musgrave on the Berea, a suburb overlooking the harbour of Durban. The suburb is upmarket, with easy access to a huge variety of foods, easy access to bus routes, and taxis and a range of accommodation, from backpackers lodges to boutique hotels within walking distance. The city is sub-tropical, which means a moderate climate year-round, and beautiful beaches ten minutes from the Durban Language Centre. We are also only a short drive to the majestic Drakensburg (Dragon's Mountains) which are a world Heritage site. In fact, Durban enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year. An undeniably awesome holiday destination.
Durban boasts spectacular architecture from Colonial to post modern, with one of the largest collections of Art Deco buildings of any City in the World. The city is situated in KwaZulu-Natal, which is considered the bastion of English in South Africa. While there are 11 national languges, Afrikaans is spoken more commonly in Cape Town, and Johannesburg. This means that Durban will afford you the best practical English speaking oportunity of any South African city. The diversity of our culture also allows visitors to immerse themselves in Durban with no fear of prejudice, regardless of race or creed. Durban is cosmopolitan, boasting world class shopping, restaurants, and entertainment, and yet retains a truly authentic and unique cultural identity with a fusion of African, European and Asian cultures. Commercial and industrial opportunities are plentiful. Durban is the third largest city in South Africa and is the busiest port in Africa, and yet Durban is the safest major city in South Africa. The business heart of South Africa is in Gauteng, (Johannesburg & Pretoria) an hour and a half flight, or a six hour drive. English is the common language of commerce, industry and tourism. Durban has many fine tertiary institutions, offering qualifications in almost every field. The city has a large university with several campuses, including an extensive postgraduate program, and various technikons and trade schools. The city is fortunate to have world class, cutting edge medical facilities, and extensive networks of skiilled professionals and artisans in almost every field. Entertaiment is available for all ages and energy levels.
Durban also has an aquarium and dolphinarium, several botanic gardens, a birdpark based at the southern-most migratory point of millions of species of African birds.
Durban also has a number of golf courses, most of our international golfers consider the green fees to be ridiculously cheap.
Most notably, within a short drive are two public game reserves, and several private reserves supporting a tremendous variety of wildlife, including the 'big five', not to mention the sublime St. Lucia Wetlands, and lush forest, all with a range of accomodation available. South African are sports fanatics, and our city is even hosting some of the games of the FIFA 2010 World Cup. South Africa also boasts (in April 2009) the ICC's worlds best cricket team, and the world champion rugby team. There are also several museums, casinos, shopping centres, fleamarkets, theatres and restaurants.
Durban Language tries to involve our students in as many 'Durban' style activities, which you can see in our photo galleries
